Most of the correspondence is addressed to James Law, Writer to the Signet, who acted as London agent in many Peerage Cases in which Riddell was involved; and much of it is from other lawyers.

Scope and Contents According to an undated note signed `G Webster` (folio 1) the copy is written from shorthand notes by `Mr Gurney` (doubtless William B Gurney) and the extensive deletions and numerous alterations are in Eldon`s hand.
